May 27, 2011 US President Barack Obama will come to Poland late Friday, May 27 and leave the following day. On Friday evening, Obama will be a special guest at a working dinner during the 17th Central European Summit hosted by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Poland has invited 22 heads of state of Central Europe to the summit and only the Presidents of Serbia and Romania refused the invitation in protest against Kosovo's presence at the event. Presidents of Germany, Italy, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Austria along other Europen leaders will discuss the use of European experiences of system transformation to help democratic changes in Northern Africa. Saturday will be devoted to Polish-American bilateral relations. Obama will meet one-on-one with President Bronislaw Komorowski and hold plenary talks with him and PM Donald Tusk. US President is also expected to meet with the heads of Poland's major political parties. The three most important topics under discussion will include security, economic relations (shale gas exploration and nuclear power) and promotion of democracy. The lingering doubts concern the stationing of a US division of F-16 jets in Poland, which might be announced during the visit. US President Barack Obama's visit to Poland will not mark a breakthrough in Polish-US relations as they have traditionally been good, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Thursday. "I do not want any breakthroughs in Polish-US relations," Tusk said. "I want the continuation of what we have had for the last 20 years," he added. The Americans are Poland's "perfect partner" for shale gas exploration and exploitation, said Tusk. US President will also meet with families of victims of the Polish presidential plane crash in Smolensk on April 10, 2010, an unofficial source told the Polish news agency PAP. President Obama is expected to visit Warsaw's Field Cathedral to lay flowers at the plaque commemorating the victims of the tragic crash which killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and over 90 political and military VIPs.
