One of the highlights of a trip to Riga is to
take a look at its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture
Art Nouveau or Jugendstil as it is also known was really popular
at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
It just so happens that Riga at that time
was also at its financial zenith.
It was the power house at that time and
buildings were being built all over the place
All the buildings were basically build
in this incredible Art Nouveau style.
And we are here on Alberta iela,
which is one of the most impressive streets
and lots of the buildings where
built by set up by Mikhail Eisenstein
the father of the famous filmmaker Sergei
Eisenstein who was also born here in Riga.
After you’ve checked out all the buildings on Albert street
you can also go straight to the Art Nouveau Museum
It is basically a whole apartment with period furniture
and even the staff wear period costume.
Everything there is as it was 100 years ago
including the bathroom and the kitchen.
So it's simply worth a visit and across the street
is also a great shop called Art Nouveau Riga.
They sell all kinds of Art Nouveau souvenirs.
Definitely a must see!
