Crowds of tourists travel national road no. 11 every summer driving to the seaside resort of Kołobrzeg, but many reach their destination 12 kilometers ahead of Kołobrzeg, taking a right turn to Ustronie Morskie. The small and charming seaside town is famous for its glorious beach and a promenade where tourists can see funny cartoons drawn by Polish caricaturists. Ustronie Morskie is located on the Baltic coast near Kołobrzeg, 31 kilometers from the city of Koszalin. With a population of just 2,000, in the summer Ustronie Morskie attracts well over 10,000 tourists who stay at more than 120 boarding houses, hotels, private rooms, agrotourist farms and camp sites in the area. The sandy beach attracts crows of people who crave relaxation, sunshine and want to swim in the sea. Local attractions include a cruise in a pleasure boat and those who seek more excitement can take a ride on a banana boat or watch a beach volleyball game. The local swimming site called Nadbrzeżna has been awarded the international Blue Flag quality certificate given to the best swimming sites in the world. In the evening, tourists can entertain themselves at discos, some of which are located directly on the beach. Summer in Ustronie Morskie is also a time of numerous music concerts and comedy shows performed at the local open-air theater. Every year in early July, cartoonists and caricaturists come to Ustronie Morskie to attend the Morka International Art Workshops, bringing lots of humor to the town's sunny vibe. They draw caricatures and when they leave, an exhibition of funny cartoons remains. Taking a stroll across Ustronie Morskie, every now and then you will see Caricature Celebrity Benches, and the seaside promenade, called the Promenade of Satire and Good Humor, is adorned with amusing cartoons about summer vacations at the seaside. The local authorities have a sense of humor as well. Community administrator Stanisław Zieliński, who has been in office for over two decades, has gathered a record number of caricatures of himself. His collection will soon consist of 200 items. If you like cycling, you can take a ride down a bike path to Kołobrzeg, 12 km west of Ustronie Morskie, passing through a scenic park in Podczele. The trail ends by the lighthouse in Kołobrzeg. Cycling in the other direction, you will reach the lighthouse in Gąski, 8 km from Ustronie Morskie, which, at 50 meters, stands as the second tallest lighthouse on the Polish coast. The view from the top is breathtaking. The forest in the nearby village of Bagicz is home to two of Poland's oldest oaks. One of the oaks, named Bolesław, is 800 years old, 37 meters tall and 680 centimeters in circumference. The other tree, Warcisław, is a bit younger at 640 years, but its trunk is thicker, at 720 cm in circumference. In summer, Ustronie Morskie is a busy place that draws tourists from across Poland who travel hundreds of kilometers to relax on one of Poland's most beautiful beaches. Source: The Warsaw Voice
