Hot Taste of India: The Namaste India was a single-table eatery two years ago, a cheap spot in the center of town that served good Indian food. The place has come a long way since then. The prices are not what they were but the Indian spices are strong enough to permeate your clothing in seconds, and Indian groceries and cosmetics are now sold as well. The Namaste India is worth a visit and any lover of Indian food who has tried the place can vouch for it. The Chicken Lababdar and the samosas are delicious but the plates and cutlery, sad to report, are plastic. Though the place has atmosphere, the prices are not the cheapest and the connoisseur just might detect a touch of Europe in the food. Namaste India, 15 Nowogrodzka St., Warsaw Balsam Branches Out: Balsam is a fixture on the Warsaw club scene. A lot of new venues have sprung up in Warsaw since Balsam first opened next to Fort Mokotów six years ago. These may have deprived Mokotów of its status as a leading club precinct but Balsam continues to develop. The interiors of the 19th century fort are known to the good people of Warsaw as a concert and club venue but there is another side to them. A restaurant operates here during the day and Balsam's owners have recently got around to promoting it. It supplies meals to offices and apartments around Upper Mokotów and the Racławicka St. entrance, which has always been difficult for the uninitiated to find, will soon have a banner out front. "The restaurant is an attempt to broaden our activities so as to cater for business customers who may not have known about Balsam before," says the manager, Zofia Kopczyńska. The menu includes seasonal dishes like spinach salad with tiger prawns and cold soup for hot summer days in addition to the usual standbys like the particularly popular pepper steak and the Thai Tom Ka soup. The kitchen is open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and stays open longer on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a special lunch menu from Monday to Friday and a weekend children's menu. Source: The Warsaw Voice
